Message From Our Founder
It is my great pleasure to announce the establishment of the Japan Society of Ophthalmic Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery.

In today’s rapidly evolving medical landscape, our mission is to bridge the worlds of insurance-covered and private medical care, and to elevate ophthalmic plastic surgery in Japan to the highest international standards. Through active global exchange and the integration of knowledge from both Japan and abroad, we aim to place Japanese ophthalmic plastic surgery at the forefront of the field worldwide.
Looking ahead, we are delighted to share that our First Annual Forum will be held on May 16–17, 2026.

This landmark event will feature distinguished speakers from around the world, offering the latest knowledge and techniques in a truly global learning environment. In addition, we are preparing to launch the Society-Certified Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Instructor Program—a pioneering initiative to foster highly specialized surgeons and create clear pathways for young physicians to succeed on the world stage.

The founding of this society marks an important step toward shaping the future of ophthalmic plastic surgery in Japan. Realizing this vision will require the support and collaboration of our colleagues, partners, and friends.
We warmly invite you to join us on this journey, and we deeply appreciate your continued understanding, encouragement, and participation in our activities.

Founding Vision
In Japan today, the number of ophthalmic plastic surgeons who actively provide private (self-funded) care remains surprisingly small. Yet, as our social security system approaches its limits and the scope of insurance-covered treatment inevitably narrows, introducing private care will soon become not just an option, but an essential path for all physicians.
Ophthalmic plastic surgery is a uniquely demanding field—blending aesthetics, function, and reconstruction. It requires advanced skills that directly enhance patients’ quality of life. In this changing environment, the question is no longer whether insurance and private medicine should compete, but how we can seamlessly integrate the two to create a realistic, sustainable model of care for the future.
This is why we have established the Japan Society of Ophthalmic Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery—a place to raise the standard of private care in this specialty, define best practices, and explore how insurance and private treatment can work hand in hand to serve patients better.
Our Mission
We begin our work with these guiding principles:
Advance Excellence: Share knowledge and techniques in ophthalmic plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine to elevate the quality of clinical practice.
Unite Science and Ethics: Establish ethical, evidence-based approaches in both insurance-covered and private care.
Empower Surgeons: Train ophthalmic surgeons who can offer safe, beneficial, and globally competitive treatment options.
Lead from Japan: Build a trusted, world-class model of ophthalmic aesthetic medicine originating in Japan.
We envision a future where ophthalmic plastic surgeons are more than skilled technicians—they are innovators, educators, and leaders who shape the future of patient care. This society will be the platform where those leaders emerge, collaborate, and inspire one another.
